Two last-minute NHL waiver announcements, one of them being a surprise
There has been some activity on the NHL waivers in the last few minutes.
First, the big defenseman Markus Niemelainen of the Edmonton Oilers went unclaimed, so he can now report to the American Hockey League.
Secondly, in a surprising move, the Columbus Blue Jackets have placed the name of Eric Robinson on waivers.
Robinson, 28 years old, is an energetic forward standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 205 pounds. He has been a regular player for the Blue Jackets for four seasons, and he even took on the role left by Josh Anderson after his trade to the Montreal Canadiens.
During this time, he has gathered 81 points, including 37 goals. He is a highly valued and appreciated player there, but clearly, he has fallen victim to the numerous young players who have graduated to the NHL in Columbus (such as Adam Fantilli).
Don't be surprised if he is claimed tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. He earns 1.6 million per year.
More details to follow.
