As the NHL Draft rapidly approaches, trade rumors are intensifying, particularly involving Martin Necas and the Montreal Canadiens.

Necas's name is unsurprisingly prominent in many speculations, but other players, including Nikolaj Ehlers, are also being discussed.
According to several insiders, the Winnipeg Jets' forward is on the trade market. Sportsnet journalist Ryan Dixon analyzed the situation and proposed two trades to give the Dane a fresh start.

A Three-Team Trade Involving the Montreal Canadiens and Martin Necas

One of the proposed trades is a three-team deal that includes the Montreal Canadiens and Martin Necas!

Before proceeding further, it's important to remember that these are just speculations, not rumors or predictions.
With that warning out of the way, here is Dixon's surprising offer:
Winnipeg receives

Josh Anderson

Jayden Struble

Justin Barron

Owen Beck

2024 2nd round pick from the Hurricanes

Carolina receives

Nikolaj Ehlers

Jordan Harris

26th overall pick in 2024 (owned by the Canadiens)

Montreal receives

Martin Necas

Dixon detailed why each team would agree to this trade.
Why the Jets do it: Although they don't receive any major pieces, they acquire good players who fill many gaps in their roster. Jayden Struble has proven himself, Justin Barron still has potential, Owen Beck just had a great Memorial Cup tournament, and Josh Anderson will be perfect in the top-9.
Why the Hurricanes do it: Ehlers would be the ideal replacement for the loss of Martin Necas. They also get Jordan Harris, who has proven to be a very smart defenseman in Montreal, reliable in all situations. The 26th overall pick is also significant, as they also hold the 27th selection in the draft.
Why the Canadiens do it: They can afford to trade young defensemen and take the risk of parting with Owen Beck. The return in Martin Necas, who is 25 years old, is much more appealing than keeping all these players.
Remember, this is not a rumor but a proposal made by Ryan Dixon (not us). It's his vision of things, and it's still interesting to read.
The fact is that Dixon does not take Necas's future contract into account in his equation. Necas will undoubtedly want a lucrative long-term contract, not a bridge deal. The buzz is that it will be between $7 million and $7.5 million per season for 6 to 8 years.
Will Kent Hughes want to pay not only the price of the trade but also the cost on the salary cap? It's something to think about...
