According to the excellent journalist Jeremy Rutherford, the St. Louis Blues' General Manager Doug Armstrong has announced that forward Kasperi Kapanen will be a free agent on July 1st.
That's one more name officially added!
The St. Louis Blues will not offer him a contract before then, so all other NHL teams will have the opportunity to try and sign him.
Let's recall last Saturday's announcement.
And now that Hughes has signed Oliver Kapanen, could his cousin, Kasperi Kapanen, be an interesting option for the Montreal Canadiens?
Kasperi Kapanen, 27 years old, 6 feet 1 inch, and 200 pounds, was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014.
He has accumulated 208 points in 460 career NHL games, including 84 goals, and recently concluded a deal earning him 3.2 million dollars per year.
His next contract will likely be less than two million dollars per year, on a short-term basis, making him an intriguing option for Kent Hughes if he wants to take a chance on this forward with exceptional skating ability.
It will be a low-cost option but could pay off, especially if Kapanen regains his 2021 form, a season in which he collected 30 points in 40 games.
