This proposal was put forward during the excellent Arpon Basu's segment on BPM Sports.
First, it's important to note that the journalist wondered if the new general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Don Waddell, was playing a high-stakes poker game with Kent Hughes.
Why? Because all indications pointed towards Columbus adding a defenseman with their 4th overall pick, but since Waddell's arrival, they suddenly want to select a forward.
Is this a tactic to force Kent Hughes into making a trade to acquire their 4th overall pick? This was discussed yesterday afternoon.
During this discussion, they also submitted the following trade proposal.
To Montreal - 4th overall pick
To Columbus - 5th overall pick + 26th overall pick
According to some sources, this would be the price to move up one spot within the top-5 selections.
Would you accept it?
Personally, if Ivan Demidov is still available at the 4th overall pick, I would make this trade.
However, if not, I think I would take the chance to see if Columbus is bluffing about wanting to select a forward and thus keep my fifth overall pick.
In any case, an excellent young player will certainly be available at the 5th spot.
One thing is for sure, things are really heating up behind the scenes as all the NHL general managers are currently gathered in Buffalo.
