As you know, many analysts link Necas to the Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes, especially since Pierre LeBrun confirmed there was a phone call between the Canadiens' general manager and the Hurricanes' general manager regarding this matter. Here is an interesting development.
The Hurricanes could indeed insist on including Jesperi Kotkaniemi's contract in the Martin Necas trade.
The advantage for them would be getting rid of a hefty contract (which their owner certainly doesn't like), and the advantage for the other team involved in the trade, such as the Montreal Canadiens, would be reducing Necas's value.
In any case, it's an idea that is circulating.
Kotkaniemi, 23, the third overall pick by the Canadiens in 2018, has amassed 27 points in 79 games this season and 43 points in 82 games last season.
He is signed until 2030, at $4.82 million per year. It's a contract similar to the one Christian Dvorak had when he arrived with the Canadiens.
Would you trade, say, Justin Barron + the 26th overall pick in 2024 + a 3rd round pick in 2024 + Sean Farrell, for Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Martin Necas?
I think Kotkaniemi adds negative value to the trade, so it could facilitate the acquisition of Necas for the Montreal Canadiens.
To be continued.
