Last night, immediately after the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers, Charles-Alexis Brisebois published an intriguing article.

An article aptly titled "Rumor: David Savard to Edmonton," a speculation that isn't new but seems to be gaining traction.

David Savard's name is linked to Edmonton and Connor McDavid's squad via trade

According to multiple sources, the Oilers are looking for a right-handed defenseman with a style exactly like Savard's.

«If Savard has good value on the market, we can agree that Hughes might be tempted to move a player whose days in Montreal are numbered anyway.

And on this subject, David Pagnotta mentions that the Edmonton Oilers are the kind of team that could be interested in Savard.» - DLC

We can, therefore, wonder if the Oilers will offer a first-round pick in exchange for David Savard and if the Canadiens will accept.

Clearly, Edmonton's general manager closely observed David Savard's performance last night, and he most likely wasn't disappointed.

Let's remember that Savard's contract ends at the conclusion of this season, making him an unrestricted free agent and free to sign anywhere.

David Savard, 34 years old, has accumulated four points in 18 games this season, with a -4 plus-minus rating and four penalty minutes. He plays a critical role mentoring young players like Lane Hutson, but it's true that trading him at a high value would be better than losing him «for nothing» next July.

The dream scenario would be trading him for a first-round pick and re-signing him immediately next summer.

A story to watch closely, no doubt.
