Major trade proposed between MTL and CAR for Mike Matheson: big piece added
The Canadiens are among the teams reportedly in discussions for a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes to acquire Martin Necas.
This is what Pierre LeBrun mentioned, noting that the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, and Boston Bruins are the other teams interested in the 25-year-old Czech forward.
However, as reported by Habsolumentfan, it appears the Hurricanes do not intend to trade him cheaply and would require a player of equivalent caliber in return.
That said, some rumors suggest that Kent Hughes might consider trading defenseman Michael Matheson if he reaches an agreement with his counterpart from the Hurricanes, but he admits that the Canadiens would need to add other elements to finalize a deal.

We probably all agree with this statement, but it should not be forgotten that if the Canadiens manage to acquire Martin Necas, they would need to agree on the terms of a new contract with him.
He will be a restricted free agent this summer, and it is highly likely that his next contract will earn him around 7 to 7.5 million dollars per season.
Necas has been on the trade market since the Hurricanes were eliminated a few weeks ago, as according to several sources, he is not interested in continuing his career in Carolina, and we should soon know his next destination.
