Pierre LeBrun Reveals Details of a Failed Trade Between Canadiens and Canes
We've just received a very interesting statement from the renowned Pierre LeBrun regarding a trade negotiated between Montreal and Carolina.
For those who doubted that LeBrun is extremely well-connected, listen to the following excerpt.
The insider reveals details about a trade negotiation between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes during the 2024 draft.
A Negotiated Trade Involving Martin Necas for Kent Hughes and the Habs
Here's the trade in question.
«If Demidov had been drafted earlier, do you think the 5th overall pick was on the table for Martin Necas?»
And Pierre LeBrun's response:
«I don't think so. I could be wrong, but I was never told that the 5th pick was on the table. The Canadiens had a second first-round pick (the 21st overall), and I think it would have been the second pick on the table, plus..
I don't think I'll say the name of the player..
Because I can't remember if I was allowed to mention it in our conversation (that I had with my source).»
This is very intriguing. He's referring here to the pick that became Michael Hage.
I'm referring again to the big scoop by Marco Normandin where he revealed that the Canadiens had a trade in place to acquire Zegras this past summer.
LeBrun's statement seems to confirm Marco's information once again.
According to Normandin, the 21st overall pick + Logan Mailloux were discussed in a trade for Trevor Zegras:
«At the start of the first round of the annual NHL draft held in Las Vegas in late June, the Canadiens and Ducks had agreed on the framework of a trade that would have sent Trevor Zegras to Montreal along with one of their second-round picks. In return, the Canadiens would have given up young defenseman Logan Mailloux as well as their later first-round pick (21st overall) in 2024.
However, I'm told that it was the Habs who eventually decided not to finalize the trade and informed the Ducks during the first round.»- HABSolumentFan
Could the same deal, or something very similar, have been on the table with the Carolina Hurricanes, but for Martin Necas?
Could the name Pierre LeBrun refuses to reveal be Logan Mailloux?
It certainly looks that way, but you can draw your own conclusions.
