Trade rumors and the world of sports, it's a combo that always sparks a lot of reactions, and not just with the Montreal Canadiens. We see it in every market of the National Hockey League, especially the most popular ones, and I'd even say we see it in every professional league.

We think it's intense in Montreal, that when things are going badly, all the experts want to trade everyone, but the truth is that this phenomenon is quite widespread.

All of this to say that over the past few weeks, after the collapse of the Boston Bruins, serious trade rumors involving forward Brad Marchand have surfaced.

It's getting people talking because he's the type of player you hate to face, but you love having on your team.

A Trade Rumor Involving Brad Marchand Gaining Traction

It's an easy argument, but if Mikko Rantanen was traded, few players are safe now, and this rumor involving Marchand has made some Montreal Canadiens fans dream.

I really don't think it will happen, for obvious reasons, but well, a great Boston journalist just revealed what the Bruins would likely receive in exchange for their captain.

Is a pick and good young player worth it for the Bruins to trade an all-time great?

- Fluto Shinzawa

«If they think it'll help the team,» one hockey operations executive said when asked if the Bruins will trade Marchand. «All bets are off.»

He also doesn't really believe in a trade involving Brad Marchand, especially since, as he mentions, it would apparently only bring back a draft pick and a good young player.

If Boston is in the race they're not trading Marchand. If Boston out of it, maybe.

- Elliotte Friedman

For the Canadiens, names like Logan Mailloux, Alex Newhook, Emil Heineman, and others (plus a draft pick) could come up, but as the Boston journalist mentions, at this point, and knowing the return wouldn't be that huge, the Bruins should simply keep Brad Marchand.

Still, let's ask the question: do you believe Marchand could be the perfect acquisition for a team in the playoff race, especially for what it would cost?

Brad Marchand, 36 years old, has 38 points in 51 games this season, including 17 goals, after producing at rates of 67 points, 75 points, 94 points, 107 points, 102 points, 104 points, and 103 points (per 82 games) in recent seasons.

He earns $6.125 million per year until next summer, which really isn't that expensive.
