The New York Rangers place a surprising player on waivers
We just had our first surprise on the NHL waivers this offseason, and Kent Hughes and the Canadiens have their first decision to make.
It's very rare to see this, but a player has been placed on the NHL waiver wire in the middle of the Stanley Cup Final, and it's a significant player at that.

«Placed on NHL waivers today: Barclay Goodrow (NYR).»
- Chris Johnston, TSN
Clearly, the Rangers are preparing for something and want to free up space quickly under the salary cap. Interesting.
Things are moving, for sure!
Barclay Goodrow, 31 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, and 210 pounds, is a power forward who was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a first-round pick, imagine that.
Goodrow scored 33 points in 2022, 31 points in 2023, and 12 points last season in New York.
He has always been excellent in the playoffs, notably scoring 6 goals in just 16 games during the current 2024 playoffs.
It's a situation to watch, and we will have the answer by tomorrow afternoon.
«Obviously, New York is doing this solely for salary cap reasons, to see if another team is interested.
Goodrow has 6 goals in 16 playoff games; this is his time of year.»
- Elliotte Friedman, from Sportsnet
Goodrow earns $3.6 million per year until 2027.
