First, as we reported earlier, the Canadiens made a new trade with the New Jersey Devils.
We now have all the details and the official trade.
So, it is indeed officially a "1 for 1" trade.
Légaré had been acquired last August from the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the transaction that also involved Jeff Petry, Casey DeSmith, and Mike Hoffman.
He will now get a fresh start with the Devils organization. Because they were acquired after the NHL trade deadline, Légaré and Durandeau are ineligible for the playoffs.
Speaking of the Pittsburgh Penguins, they too have just made an interesting personnel move.
They have just announced that they have placed forward Jonathan Gruden on NHL waivers.
So, we have our first player available for free post-trade deadline.
Gruden, 23, is a 4th round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2018. He was acquired by the Penguins in the Matt Murray trade.
Gruden has 1 goal in 11 games this season in the National League, and 23 points (13 goals) in 41 games in the American League. We're talking about a hardworking and robust player here.
It will be interesting to see if he will be claimed or not.
So, we have two interesting personnel moves this afternoon in the NHL. (a trade and a player on waivers)
The action continues, even after the deadline!
