Some Montreal Canadiens analysts like to (rightfully) remind Ken Holland that he didn't want Jake Allen.
The Oilers' general manager had publicly stated that he wasn't at all worried about his goalies, despite their numerous setbacks, and that he wouldn't engage in a transaction for this purpose.
It's no secret, but Kent Hughes had discussions with Edmonton about a possible trade involving Jake Allen when Montreal was stuck with their three goalies, but Ken Holland ultimately decided to let it go and hung up the phone.
Was it a big mistake? Jake Allen, who had a great end to the season with the New Jersey Devils, would be very useful to Connor McDavid's team right now.
Yet, Kent Hughes was asking for a very reasonable price.
A transaction they certainly should have accepted.
Stuart Skinner, the Oilers' current goalie, has a dismal save percentage of 0.885 in the current playoffs.
Unfortunately, that's making the difference for Edmonton, as they have a significant disadvantage in goal compared to their opponents.
Do you think the Oilers should have made this trade?
Of course, let's remember that Allen was eventually traded to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 draft.
