With now three weeks until the NHL Draft, some Canadiens fans are not pondering who the team's first pick will be with the fifth overall selection but rather wondering if Kent Hughes will acquire another forward via the trade market, as he did with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook in the past two years.
While all eyes are on Carolina or Anaheim for Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras, a somewhat out-of-left-field suggestion has been proposed by an NHL prospects expert.
As reported by Marco Normandin from Habsolumentfan.com, Simon "The Snake" Boisvert was discussing with Mathias Brunet, during a recent episode of the podcast Processus, five forwards the Canadiens could acquire during the offseason who might become this year's Kirby Dach or Alex Newhook.
Among the names mentioned, Boisvert spoke about Buffalo Sabres forward Peyton Krebs and proposed this trade suggestion:
Despite a mediocre 2023-2024 season in terms of offense, with only 17 points and 4 goals in 80 games, Boisvert believes he has untapped offensive potential due to his situation with the Sabres and that a change of scenery could benefit him.
However, he also stated that he wasn't willing to offer the moon to the Sabres for his services, so under the circumstances, the 56th overall pick would still be reasonable.
Drafted in the first round by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019, Krebs was part of the trade that sent Jack Eichel to Sin City in the fall of 2021, and he will be a restricted free agent this summer.
