A few hours after signing his new contract with the Montreal Canadiens, Arber Xhekaj has been linked to the Philadelphia Flyers via trade.
He could have waited, but well, journalist Jim Parsons (THW) has just published an article titled "The signing of Arber Xhekaj with the Montreal Canadiens could spark new trade discussions."
Basically, he explains that Xhekaj's new contract will make him even more attractive on the trade market. He expects teams to contact Kent Hughes.
«His new contract is such that it can be easily negotiated under the right circumstances. He has no trade protection, he is a restricted free agent at the end of the contract, and his qualifying offer is only $1.3 million.
This is the kind of contract that will inevitably attract attention on the trade market.»
- The Hockey Writers
I agree, but Kent Hughes has always been clear that he does not want to trade Xhekaj. Anyway, he continues.
«Xhekaj's new contract is considered a solid investment for the Canadiens. At $1.3 million per year, it represents a bargain for a player with his potential. The deal not only ensures his presence on the roster but also opens up future trade possibilities if the Canadiens decide to explore that route.»
- The Hockey Writers
I really don't think the Canadiens will decide to explore this route, but everything indicates that the Philadelphia Flyers continue to closely monitor the situation.
The Philadelphia Flyers would really be interested in acquiring Arber Xhekaj
Jim Parsons once again brings Daniel Brière's team into the discussion, suggesting they might again be interested in Xhekaj following this recent signing.
We recall that the renowned Elliotte Friedman announced a few months ago that the Flyers' general manager had made calls to Kent Hughes to inquire about the availability of number 72.
He wanted to know the price to acquire Xhekaj and even offered a forward with «top-6 potential» in exchange... An offer that Kent Hughes obviously refused.
«Frankly, no one should be surprised if the Flyers show renewed interest in trying to strengthen their defense after recently acquiring young defenseman Jamie Drysdale.»
«Even though the Canadiens chose not to trade Xhekaj last season, the possibility of future trade discussions cannot be ignored. If his performances continue to improve, other teams might again come knocking. If the Canadiens see an opportunity to sell him at a high price, they might do it.»
- The Hockey Writers If you ask me, it would take an extremely high price to trade Arber Xhekaj.
He should not be traded!
I found it special to see a journalist reignite the possibility of a trade involving Xhekaj just a few hours after signing his new contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
And you, if a team is willing to pay a very high price to get Xhekaj, would you trade him?
