In the last few minutes, the former Montreal Canadiens scout, Grant McCagg, made a major statement regarding a promising young defenseman of the Montreal Canadiens.

According to him, it's over for Mattias Norlinder with the CH. Wow.

He won't be back in Laval and he won't re-sign with the Canadiens.

Recall that Norlinder is still under contract for one more season with the Habs.

Norlinder still has one year left on his NHL contract (with the Habs), but he played in a SHL pre-season game the other day.

He won't return to Laval, and don't count on the Canadiens to re-sign him.

Once considered one of the top 5 prospects in the system... he never adjusted to the rinks in North America and was surpassed by others.

Kent Hughes can simply loan him to a club in Sweden for the year and let him go afterward.

It seems that's the plan, and it certainly looks like the end for Norlinder in Montreal.

Who could've predicted this two years ago when everyone saw him as a real steal?

Norlinder eventually played just six short games with the Canadiens (1 point accumulated), and it certainly looks like there won't be a seventh.

He will be 24 years old next April.
