According to information from the excellent Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, here is why the Arizona Coyotes abruptly terminated Alex Galchenyuk's contract.
"Regarding Alex Galchenyuk, who is going to have his contract terminated by the ArizonaCoyotes just 12 days after they signed him.
An NHL source tells ESPN that the Coyotes had discovered an "off-ice situation" impacting Galchenyuk that was previously unknown to the team.."

And it's a situation serious enough to warrant a contract termination, which is quite unusual.
The Coyotes didn't even want to keep him to play in the American Hockey League, they wanted absolutely nothing more to do with him.
