The sale of the Coyotes to Utah is now official
Gary Bettman will make a major announcement. The National Hockey League has just confirmed historic news, as the Arizona Coyotes are officially sold.
The franchise is relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah.
It's really not every day that we have such a statement from the NHL:
'The Board of Governors of the National Hockey League today approved the creation of an NHL franchise, starting in the 2024-2025 season, in Utah, a franchise that will be owned and controlled by Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan and Ashley Smith.
In addition, the Board approved a plan that renders the Arizona Coyotes franchise inactive, with the right to reactivate it if owner Alex Meruelo has fully built a new, state-of-the-art facility suitable for an NHL team within five years.' - National Hockey League
So, yes the Coyotes are moving to Salt Lake City, but that's not all.
Surprise. Bettman could bring the Arizona Coyotes back to life within 5 years, which is completely ridiculous.
The potentiel names options got leaked on the internet, here they are:
The new team will be called "Utah" rather than "Salt Lake City."
