Sad and horrible scene: a well-known journalist bullies a child who was living her dream
I just watched a video that particularly saddened me, and it took place during a press conference of an NHL team.
It's an extremely embarrassing scene for a well-known journalist.
The video is currently circulating widely on the web and it must be strongly denounced. Here's basically what happened:
A young woman, who dreams of becoming a sports journalist, probably like the wonderful Chantal Machabée, attends her first-ever press conference.
While she is visibly embarrassed and intimidated by the situation, we can see that she stays in the background and doesn't want to impose herself too much.
To encourage her, her companion suggests that she approach a little closer, to fully experience the junior journalist's experience and to see better what is happening.
All timid, she agrees to take a few steps towards her dream of "participating" in a real NHL press conference.
She begins to timidly raise her microphone, she barely has time to take a second step forward, and a journalist turns around.
What did this journalist do?
He could have: encouraged her to participate, taken her under his wing, given her an experience she would remember for the rest of her life, he could have given her a simple smile, or at worst, ignored her.
But no, he didn't do any of that.
He turned around and "put her in her place" and not a little bit. Some even speak outright of intimidation towards the child.
It's incredible to see how many people refuse to accept someone new and something fun. What a bad look."
