Jonathan Drouin has just confirmed a big rumor
Met by the media during his annual golf tournament benefiting the CHUM Foundation, Jonathan Drouin seemed serene. The one who signed this summer with the Colorado Avalanche confessed that turning the page from the Canadiens chapter was an easy thing for him.
He broke the silence with sincerity and complete transparency:
"As soon as I signed with the Avalanche, I put the Canadiens aside. I think on both sides (the Canadiens and him) we agreed to part ways. I liked my last year with Martin St-Louis and the other coaches, but I think for me, it was time to move on." - Jonathan Drouin
He thus confirms the rumor that it had already been settled in advance. Montreal and Drouin agreed it was best for both parties to part ways.
Drouin, therefore, never really came close to re-signing here.
As we mentioned in a previous article, Drouin stated he had better offers than those of the Avalanche. However, he chose the team where his longtime teammate Nathan MacKinnon plays.
"I'm really happy to be back with him! We had some great years in junior. He was my driver. So if he didn't wake up to go to school, I didn't either! So it was up to him if I went to school in the morning (laughs). We spent all our time together. To be able to play with him 10 years later will surely be special."
"I'm convinced that this club is the best fit for me. I know a lot of guys (MacKinnon, Artturi Lehkonen, Samuel Girard) and the team goes for a fast-paced game. I genuinely think this is the ideal place for what's next in my case." - Jonathan Drouin It will be interesting to see if the two players will regain the same chemistry as when they terrorized the defenses of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) between 2011 and 2013.
In 321 regular season games wearing the Canadiens uniform, Drouin accumulated 48 goals, 138 assists for a total of 186 points. He added 7 points in 10 playoff appearances with the Montreal club.
It is hoped that the 3rd overall pick of the 2013 draft finds his way back to success, as he truly deserves it after all he has been through in recent seasons!
