While the defenseman has become a key pillar for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Quebec forward has not become the franchise player many had hoped for. Many have long regretted this trade, especially seeing the kind of defenseman Sergachev has become, and they were relieved to see that Kent Hughes would not extend the Quebecer's ordeal with the CH on July 1st.
Instead, Drouin agreed to the terms of a one-season deal valued at $825,000 with the Colorado Avalanche in hopes of rejuvenating his career alongside his former Mooseheads of Halifax teammate, Nathan MacKinnon.
Present at his annual golf tournament benefiting the CHUM Foundation, TVA Sports journalist, Anthony Martineau, spent some time chatting with the Quebec forward. From this conversation, we learn that Drouin was more in demand than one might think last July 1st. He even declined better offers to align himself with the Avalanche and have the chance to play with his former teammate and friend Nathan MacKinnon.
In 321 regular-season games in the Canadiens uniform, Drouin racked up 48 goals, 138 assists for a total of 186 points. He added 7 points in 10 playoff appearances with the Montreal club.
Given all he's had to endure since joining the CH, let's hope that this new start with the Avalanche will benefit him.
