However, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman denied this information, but he still reiterated the interest of certain cities in eventually hosting an NHL team, including Atlanta, Houston, and of course Quebec.
On the other hand, as reported by Alexandre Desrosiers, from the website Rumeursdetransacton.com, it could very well be that the favored destination for a new team is none of the suggested choices.
According to Eklund, an independent informant active on social media, the city of Salt Lake City in the state of Utah is the designated location for welcoming the next NHL team.
As we know, there is a certain Ryan Smith, owner of the NBA's Utah Jazz, who has shown interest in bringing an NHL franchise, and even Pierre LeBrun shared the information, mentioning that this could be a possible avenue in the event of a relocation of the Arizona Coyotes.
Considering that the Coyotes organization seems to have multiple lives, one shouldn't bet too heavily on that. However, if the NHL were to go ahead with another expansion, the candidacy of Salt Lake City would need to be seriously considered, as it could be an interesting market for the NHL.
However, the arrival of a team in Salt Lake City is far from certain, and here we are only discussing speculations, as we have heard in the past with the city of Houston.
That being said, we are still far from seeing the NHL's first faceoff in Utah, but we will need to monitor this matter over the next few years.
