Jonathan Drouin's name has been linked to a surprising new team
A journalist from Pittsburgh has just linked Jonathan Drouin's name to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it's serious.
This is a great find by my colleague Keven Mawn, but Drouin could genuinely become the "new Chris Kunitz" and become the new winger for the Penguins' legend.
Following Jake Guentzel's departure, the Penguins need a new winger for Sidney Crosby, and the excellent Pittsburgh journalist Dan Kingerski believes this new winger could be the former Montreal Canadiens player Jonathan Drouin.
It's known that Drouin would really like to return with the Colorado Avalanche, but he has earned himself a nice salary increase, and there are real questions about how the Avs could afford this raise.
They are very tight under the NHL salary cap.
Jonathan Drouin with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins?
Here's an excerpt from what the Pittsburgh journalist recently published about Jonathan Drouin.
«If there's a player on the market who could come close to Guentzel, it's Drouin. However, the playmaking winger has yet to fully tap into his talent over his ten-year career.
After overcoming personal issues, he had a good season with the Colorado Avalanche and his friend Nathan MacKinnon, scoring 18 goals and setting career highs with 37 assists and 56 points. Drouin, 29, is expected to sign a new contract worth about $5 million for four years.» - Dan Kingerski He believes that Drouin would be the type of high-IQ winger ideal for playing with Sidney Crosby.
«His defensive work has also been recognized, for Jonathan. Drouin would represent a continuation of the Penguins' skill and talent, but at a lower cost, leaving more money for other needs.» - Dan Kingerski
So, this will be a file to watch.
Drouin could still re-sign with the Colorado Avalanche, of course, but his agent and the Avalanche GM were supposed to meet this week, and they don't seem to be able to come to an agreement at the moment.
