It feels so surreal to talk about this right now, but at the same time, many of you are asking what will happen to the nearly $70 million contract signed between Johnny Hockey and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It's journalist Simon-Olivier Lorange who stepped up and decided to talk about the impact of Gaudreau's death on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Personally, I don't care (respectfully) to discuss the financial impact for the Blue Jackets.
At least not for the moment.
However, there is an interesting element.
The people I think about the most right now are the close families of Matthew Gaudreau and Johnny Gaudreau, including Johnny Hockey's wife and children.
Obviously, money is the least of their worries at the moment, and they would give anything in the world never to have to touch those indemnities, but knowing that going back is unfortunately impossible, it's reassuring to know they won't have to worry about their finances (in addition to everything else).
Johnny Gaudreau's contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which still had five years remaining at $9.75 million per year, has simply ended.
I repeat, it's obvious that this is not a priority at the moment, but I still find it reassuring to know.
All our thoughts are with the Gaudreau family during these absolutely terrible and unbearable times.
