Journalist Eric Engels from Sportsnet has just revealed an interesting trade offer that was rejected by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.

We know that Hughes and Jeff Gorton were very quiet yesterday, even though they did attempt some moves according to Hughes himself..

In short, new information is surfacing about certain opportunities that were presented to the Canadiens but were turned down by Kent Hughes.

The Canadiens refused a second-round pick for Joel Armia

Here is the exact excerpt from journalist Eric Engels' article:

"Sources we contacted indicated that they could have received a second-round pick for Joel Armia on Friday, but they also turned their backs on that option.

The Canadiens kept Armia, David Savard, and Christian Dvorak, even though it is possible, if not likely, that they will allow them to become free agents in July."

Thus, as Renaud Lavoie mentioned on TVA Sports last night, by not making a trade, Kent Hughes (in a way) still made a move, as he allowed the Canadiens to retain players like David Savard, Joel Armia, and Christian Dvorak for the remainder of the season.

It's a strange way to put it, but considering that he was expected to be a seller, it's as if he effectively "traded" (or sacrificed) a second-round pick in order to keep Joel Armia until the end of the season.

That was his big trade deadline decision.

Do you think the Canadiens should have traded Joel Armia for a second-round pick?
