This is a true tragedy that has struck the hockey world, as the Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that their star forward, Johnny Gaudreau, has passed away.

Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, have died.

See the announcement from the Blue Jackets that we so desperately wish we never had to witness.

We have just received some terrible news.

And an excerpt from their statement:

"The Columbus Blue Jackets are absolutely devastated and in shock due to an unimaginable tragedy. Johnny was not only an outstanding hockey player but also a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his son, Noa, his parents, loved ones, and families following the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew."

Here's the translation:

Johnny Gaudreau was 31 years old. The 5-foot-9, 163-pound forward recorded 60 points in 81 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In his NHL career, he amassed 743 points in 763 games. What a career!
