Connor McDavid has achieved the impressive feat of scoring 60 goals in two consecutive seasons. However, he outdid Auston Matthews by achieving this goal in just 72 games, one fewer than Matthews needed. Additionally, McDavid still has 10 more games left in the current season to potentially reach 70 goals. Despite this incredible accomplishment, the NHL used it as an opportunity to take a jab at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

NHL Roast the Leafs

The NHL's official Twitter account shared an image to celebrate McDavid's achievement, which featured McDavid holding a puck with the Toronto Maple Leafs logo on it.

It's unclear whether this was a subtle reference to Matthews, who had won the MVP award the previous year, or simply a coincidence. The image was also interestingly not taken at Edmonton, where McDavid achieved his 60th goal, but rather during an away game against the Arizona Coyotes.

Some fans speculate that this was a deliberate attempt to insult the Leafs or that the NHL has a bias against the team. However, it's more likely that the choice of image was simply due to graphic design considerations and the fact that the away game chosen happened to be against Toronto. While some fans may believe in conspiracies, it's important to remember that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.
