Sergei Bobrovsky has faced his fair share of criticism over the last few years, especially due to his high salary. However, we can't fault him in the current playoff series where he's playing excellent hockey.
In fact, he's one of the reasons for the Panthers' success, who have consecutively eliminated the mighty Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 10 games this spring, he has racked up 7 wins and maintained an average of 2.82 goals against and a save percentage of .918.
Despite his successes, some were taken aback after the last game when they saw the physical state of the goaltender. He has undergone a noticeable weight loss that has worried many.
The goaltender, however, explained that his weight fluctuates significantly after a game. This is due to the amount of water he drinks and all the sweat that leaves his body during games. He mentioned it's not uncommon for him to lose around 15 pounds each game.
In the last game of the series against the Panthers, which went into overtime, the Russian netminder claims to have lost nearly 20 pounds. This well explains why he looked so thin in the photo taken after that game.
Bobrovsky will have some time to regain his normal weight as he will benefit from several days off since his team's victory last Friday. We remind you that the Panthers will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Association finals.
