With the 26th pick of the 2022 draft, the CH selected the young forward Filip Mesar. A year later, after a season in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers, the 19-year-old Slovakian is now focused on professional hockey.

Mesar with the Laval Rocket!

The rumor is confirmed.

The principal concerned made this confession this Sunday, during a media appearance at the CH's development camp. Here's what he had to say:

When the Rocket sent me back to the Kitchener Rangers in October, I spoke with the leaders of the Canadiens and they told me that I was going to play in Kitchener for only one season. They want to see me in Laval this year. My agent had the same message.

I played against men for two seasons in Slovakia before my draft, so I already have this experience. For my first year in North America, I wanted to adapt to hockey here. The ice is smaller in Canada. I really hope to play with the Rocket this year. - Filip Mesar

In 52 games with the Rangers in the OHL, the forward accumulated 17 goals and 34 assists for a total of 51 points. He added 4 points in 9 playoff games with his OHL team.

Mesar openly admitted to having had a good season, nothing more. He now knows what to expect from the game in North America, which was the initial goal of his stint in the Ontario league.

It will be interesting to see if the young man can convince the Rocket's coach, Jean-François Houle, to give him the playing time he deserves. Many see him playing on the 3rd or 4th line of the team, which could slow his development. On the other hand, the Slovak is only 19 years old, so it will be up to him to prove himself!

To be seen next October!
