This is especially true of the New Jersey Devils, who may be the first to make a big move.
As reported by the NHL's official website, with the 2022 lottery just days away, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald just sent out a huge message: he's listening for his first-round pick, if he can get a quality player in return. Wow!
Right now, that would be the fifth overall pick. (with an 8.5% chance of it becoming the first overall pick)
This will be a very big deal to watch and it will be interesting to see what they could get for their top-7 pick overall.
Is Kent Hughes interested? To be continued, but we now have more details and we now know what they could get in return.
Last night on Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman revealed one of the Devils' clear targets: Minnesota Wild forward Kevin Fiala.
As my colleague Christian Matte (Marqueur.com) reports, Fiala is one to keep an eye on, as he could be reunited with fellow Swiss forward Nico Hischier.
Could we see a monster trade, involving Fiala and the Devils' first round pick? That clearly seems to be a possibility.
Why would the Wild trade Fiala, who just had 33 goals and 85 points in one season?
Because the 25-year-old forward is looking for a new monster contract and Minnesota probably won't be able to afford it. (especially because of the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyouts)
Who do you think would win the trade?
To Minnesota - Devils first round pick (top-7 overall).
To the Devils - Kevin Fiala
Don't be surprised if this comes to fruition in the next few weeks.
