On Thursday night, the Montreal Canadiens organization gave a new update on some of their injured players. It now mentions that forward Kirby Dach will be out indefinitely.
Back in January, we were among the first to question the effectiveness of the CH's medical staff. In that article, we listed the many injuries that were due to early and hasty returns to play.
We cited the injuries to Sean Monahan and Brendan Gallagher as examples, to name a few.
Since then, in addition to the strange case of Dach, injuries have been added every day. On Thursday alone, the CH lost Christian Dvorak and Jordan Harris. It's a good thing Kaiden Guhle is back in the game for now, because we know he had to miss earlier this season.
All of these absences are starting to raise questions among analysts and fans of the club. Many are questioning, as we once did, the competence of the medical team.
At the time of writing the above article, the CH was in the top 5 of the teams having missed the most games with a total. As of January 6, CH players had missed a total of 248 games.
Things have not improved since then for the Montreal organization. As of this Friday, March 10, ManGamesLost mentions that the Montreal Canadiens (438 games lost) and Toronto Maple Leafs (428) have the most games lost in the NHL. At the other end of the scale, the New York Rangers (29) and Dallas Stars (74) are the teams with the fewest losses this season.
At his post-trade deadline media availability, Kent Hughes mentioned that injuries in the organization have tied his hands.
There's no doubt about it, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have to address the injury situation this summer if they want to be competitive in the coming years.
