A few days ago, we were talking about the Montreal Canadiens' prospect, Ty Smilanic, who surprisingly decided to leave university and the NCAA to try his luck in the professional ranks.

He still has not signed a contract.

"Prospect Ty Smilanic has decided to leave the University of Wisconsin and try his luck in the pros. He will try to convince the Canadiens during the camp that he deserves a contract. It is more plausible, I am told, that he secures a contract with the AHL or a two-way AHL/ECHL contract."

Smilanic will indeed be present at the camp!

However, there is new development, and a new option might present itself if he does not have a good camp.

"If things do not go well and he does not obtain a contract at any level, he could then be released by the CH and sign elsewhere. But I do not see why he would not start by giving a hand to the T-R Lions."

- Marc Antoine Godin

So, this will be a case to follow at the camp.

Will Smilanic be released? Signed by the Canadiens? Signed by the Rocket? To be continued!

Smilanic, 21 years old, was acquired in the trade completed between the Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers in 2022 involving Ben Chiarot.

He accumulated 2 points in 14 games last season at Wisconsin. (Big-10)

He is a 6 feet 1 inch, 177 pounds forward.
