In this regard, there are two types of players. The first is the one who becomes, after his university career, an independent player because he does not belong to any NHL team. The second is the one whose rights are currently owned by teams in the National League.
The Rocket agreed this Wednesday morning with a player of the first type in Max Kaufman. The latter played five seasons in the NCAA, three with the University of Vermont and the last two with Boston University. The forward who scored 11 points in 34 games this season in Boston will join the Trois-Rivières Lions.
One of Kaufman's teammates in Boston, Luke Tuch, is also one to watch. He was drafted by the Canadiens in the 2nd round (47th overall) of the last amateur auction. He could, as of now, agree on the terms of an entry-level contract with the CH. But as Marc-Olivier Beaudoin mentions, it would be very surprising.
Alex Tuch's little brother, who is currently playing for the Buffalo Sabres, has 6 goals and 4 assists for a total of 10 points in 26 games in his second season in the NCAA. He will benefit greatly from a third season in the American college league where he can develop without stress.
The next guys to watch at the NCAA level for CH are Jordan Harris and Jayden Struble. Both are currently playing for the Huskies and Northeastern University and will be competing for their NCAA regular season division championships in the upcoming U.S. National Championship.
This tournament will lead up to the highly touted Frozen Four, which will be contested with the top four teams in the NCAA beginning April 7. The tournament's grand finale will be held two days later on April 9. The two Huskies players will not be able to get along with the CH while they are in the championship.
