Just hours before the NHL's famous trade deadline, trade proposals and rumors are swirling.

A new one has just emerged involving the Montreal Canadiens, coming from the excellent David Calabretta (The Fourth Period), who has a track record of solid exclusives.

In fact, he was on top of the Jake Evans contract extension situation:

That said, for the past few days, Calabretta has been linking an intriguing new name to the Montreal Canadiens organization.

We're talking about Jared McCann.

The acquisition of forward Jared McCann by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens has just been suggested by David Calabretta

He specifically mentioned it here:

So this is a new name to keep in mind.

His proposal is interesting.

Jared McCann, 28 years old, is still relatively young and is a well-rounded 6-foot-1, 191-pound center.

A first-round pick by the Vancouver Canucks in 2014, he has accumulated 381 points in 648 NHL games, but it's really in the past few years that he has taken off.

He has 44 points in 62 games this season, recorded 62 points in 80 games last season, and put up 70 points in 79 games (including 40 goals) the year before.

Yes, you read that right-40 goals.

McCann earns $5 million per year until 2027, and I completely agree that he is a highly interesting target for a team like the Montreal Canadiens.

He would be a perfect fit as the second-line center.

And you, would you like to see the Habs acquire him?
