In recent weeks, the NHL's LGBTQIA+ promotion program has stirred up a range of reactions from players. High-profile names such as Ivan Provorov, James Reimer, and the Staal brothers have opted against wearing special jerseys in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. Now, another team is making headlines for their decision to abstain from donning the pride jersey.

St. Louis Blues Skip Pride Jerseys

In an important update, The Athletic's James Rutherford disclosed:

Blues players will not wear Pride jerseys during warmups before the team's Pride night game against the Flyers on Tuesday, according to a team source who spoke with The Athletic on Monday. The key details are as follows:

While the Blues have shared their Pride night plans, which include various promotions, they have deliberately left out any mention of donning Pride jerseys during pregame warmups. The team has confirmed, however, that Pride-themed warmup pucks and rainbow stick tape will be available for players.

The source explained that the choice not to wear the jerseys is intended to highlight the positive efforts the team is making to support and champion the LGBTQIA+ community.

It's worth noting that the Blues previously wore Pride jerseys during warmups on April 6, 2022.

While the Blues are choosing to forgo pride jerseys, they remain steadfast in their commitment to uniquely celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.

Chris Zimmerman, Blues' CEO and business operations, articulated the team's position:

"We believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages all fans to participate in our great sport.»

«Through our Pride Night, in collaboration with our partners from Pride STL and You Can Play Project, we are honoring our friends in the LGBTQIA+ community and promoting inclusivity as part of the NHL's Hockey is for Everyone initiative,» he elaborated. «As an organization, our mission is to celebrate and welcome all individuals as valued members of the Blues family no matter how they identify or whom they love.»

We'd love to hear your thoughts. Are you in favor of teams embracing unique ways to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community?
