We mentioned this earlier today, but this is an injury that could have an impact on the Montreal Canadiens.
If Jake Allen plays 40 games or more for New Jersey, the Canadiens will receive a valuable 2nd-round draft pick, and with Markstrom's unfortunate injury, Allen is likely to play a lot over the next few weeks.
Will he reach 40? That is the question.
Another interesting aspect to analyze here is the following.
Who will be Jake Allen's backup in New Jersey for the next few weeks?
We know that the path to Montreal is blocked for Cayden Primeau, despite his strong performances with the Laval Rocket, simply because Jakub Dobes seems to really be with the Canadiens for good.
However, could Kent Hughes take advantage of this situation to give Primeau a new opportunity by trading him to New Jersey?
This is a possibility that has just been raised.
In 5 games with the Laval Rocket since his demotion down, Primeau has an impeccable record of 5-0-0, a goals-against average of 1.58, and a save percentage of .932.
What a comeback for the young goaltender!
He has certainly increased his value.
Knowing that Kent Hughes and Tom Fitzgerald (the Devils' GM) seem to get along well on the trade market, and knowing that they've already completed a trade together involving a goalie, do you think this is a realistic possibility?
Personally, I would be happy for Primeau, but at the same time, I like the idea of him being a number 1 goalie for the Laval Rocket.
If the Devils want him, they will have to pay in my opinion, but it's a possibility to consider if they want a temporary solution alongside Jake Allen (who obviously knows Primeau very well and works well with him).
