The new cohort of prospects from the recent amateur draft is undoubtedly going to shake up the internal rankings of the Montreal Canadiens. Even before the team's development camp begins, Craig Button already has his own perspective.

As TSN's prospect expert, he released his top 5 prospects for the club at the end of June, and according to him, the organization's top talent is Joshua Roy. That's quite remarkable.

He would be the top prospect for the Montreal Canadiens, no less! This is significant for his future in Montreal.

Following him is Lane Hutson, who also received an A rating in Button's eyes.

David Reinbacher, Owen Beck, and Logan Mailloux follow, all receiving a B rating.

Button sees Roy as an elite offensive player.

Roy, who was drafted 150th overall in the 2021 draft, had two excellent seasons with the Sherbrooke Phoenix. His seasons of 119 points (in 66 games) and 99 points (in 55 games) demonstrate his potential to contribute offensively on a line. It remains to be seen what he can do in professional hockey with the Canadiens or the Rocket next season.

Seeing Roy at the top of Button's rankings is very encouraging. We recall that last year, the expert identified Arber Xhekaj as a quality prospect. He was proven right as the defenseman made significant progress and earned his place in the Canadiens' lineup. It will be interesting to see if Roy can follow in the footsteps of the sturdy defenseman.

Personally, I would place Hutson ahead of Roy while keeping the same players in the top 5. So, my ranking would be: Hutson, Roy, Reinbacher, Beck, and Mailloux.

But that's just my perspective. What is yours?
