Big announcement imminent for the Montreal Canadiens? It could be a matter of hours
It's no secret to anyone, Paul Byron's playing career seems to be well and truly over. Even though he hasn't officially announced it yet, it would be very surprising to see him lace up the skates again.
Indeed, the 34-year-old veteran has only played 102 games over the past four seasons due to multiple injuries, including missing the entirety of the 2022-2023 season. With his contract expiring on July 1st, it would be surprising if Kent Hughes offered him another deal.
However, the GM of the Habs might offer him something other than a player contract. He who has often been seen in the box with Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton last season could well officially join them.
The Habs have also cast some doubt on Byron's future in a recent video posted on the club's social media. In it, we see Byron, accompanied by his son, using the Montreal Canadiens facilities even though he is technically no longer part of the organization following the expiration of his contract.
Another video posted by the Habs shows Byron delivering an inspiring speech to the young hopes of the club gathered for the development camp.
Is Kent Hughes preparing an announcement soon? It wouldn't be surprising!
