Despite his limited NHL experience of 123 games, Cole Caufield has quickly established himself as one of the pillars of the team's offense and undoubtedly the team's number one scorer. The small forward will be a restricted player with compensation this summer and the Caufield clan and Kent Hughes are currently negotiating an early contract extension.
We already know that Kent Hughes intends to offer a long term deal to number 22, but we still didn't know if the Caufield clan was really interested in a long term deal in Montreal. One thing is certain, the young man loves everything about this team and will wait until the right offer is on the table before signing.
«I love playing here. I love the team and the group of guys. But let's take it one step at a time. I want what's best for me. I don't know when it's going to happen, but there's no rush.-Cole Caufield
The way Cole's season is shaping up, he's got the right stuff to wait and raise the stakes. A 40-goal scorer doesn't come cheap and it's not cheap. So the longer it takes to reach a deal, the more it will cost Kent Hughes and the Habs.
Unfortunately for the CH's GM, Caufield and his agent seem to be very patient and will certainly not sign at a discount.
