The NHL will officially go on hiatus tomorrow until December 26th, due to an incredible increase in cases of COVID-19.

Most of the league's players are reassured by this break, because of the risks of contracting the virus. However, according to Winnipeg Jets star goalie Connor Hellebuyck, the NHL's actions are overkill. The league should have gone the same route as the NFL, he said.

"I can't speak for everyone, but for me, it's a little over the top. You see leagues like the NFL adapting and I think making the right decisions."

While he would have liked to continue playing his sport, he's glad to have a little break over the vacation break.

"It's unfortunate, but it's Christmas so we appreciate the break," mentioned Hellebuyck, who contracted COVID-19 last summer before getting the vaccine. "We can use this time as a little mental reset or to see family, enjoy the vacations and enjoy what we have."

The goalie seemed visibly disappointed that he would not be able to go to the Olympics. However, he maintained a huge amount of optimism for the 2026 Olympics.

"I will be 32 years old, said Hellebuyck. I know I'll still be playing my best hockey, but we'll see if it's the same story. It was supposed to be a wonderful opportunity, but I guess we have to deal with that."

Probably there are several other players who share the same opinion as him. However, very few players will want to take the negative public eye. Does it seem like Connor Hellebuyck is an assertive person?
