Since mid-December, it has been difficult for the CH. If the beginning of the season surprised many, the team seems to have lost its winning culture, as Michel Therrien said in a recent column on the TVA Sport website.
The former coach says that the players, if they started strong, forgot that a season is a marathon and not a sprint. According to him, in the second half of the season, the CH will have to go back to the basics and re-establish a winning culture and no longer accept defeat, as is the case at the moment.
Moreover, on the subject of accepting defeat, Therrien is quite hard on the players. He sees many cheating on the ice and does not hesitate to put Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield in the mix.
"We're seeing fewer blocked shots and too many players running around the ice. Another recurring problem is that many are stretching their presence. Even Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield have picked up this annoying habit. We need to put an end to this as soon as possible." - Michel Therrien
However, the former coach does not put all the blame on the current captain of the club. He puts the emphasis mainly on the veterans, whom we all know. It is they, according to him, who should set an example for the young people and obviously do not.
In order for young people to progress, they need to learn the right way and be around the right people. They need to be led by example by the more experienced players, but too many veterans are not helping them with their behaviors, work ethic and commitment. I don't need to name them, you know which ones I am targeting.
It's not always the coach's job to pass on messages. It's also the role of the leaders. It's a shame that nobody seems to have taken over from Shea Weber." - Michel Therrien Therrien is unanimous, for the club to succeed in its reconstruction, he will have to leave room for the young people. The latter will have to find the same enthusiasm as at the start of the season, in October. He also wants the organization to give Rocket players who deserve it the opportunity to showcase themselves in the NHL with quality playing time.
