As you know, tonight, the Montreal Canadiens face the New York Islanders and Alex Romanov.

Romanov will indeed be facing his former teammates for the very first time since the trade that brought him to the Islanders in the 2022 NHL draft, a trade that saw Kent Hughes get Kirby Dach.

We were going to say that this will be a special game for him, but apparently not.

When asked earlier today in a media scrum, Romanov made a rather cold and direct statement about his former teammates:

Question: will it be special for you to face your former teammates for the first time?

"Romy's" answer:

"I'm just playing for the Islanders, for my team and for my current teammates. I don't think it's anything special for me to face my former Habs teammates." - Alexander Romanov

It may sound peculiar, and it's true that it's a change from the statements you normally hear when a player faces his former club, but at the same time, probably Romanov is just trying to focus on his game and get out of the spotlight.

The CH players received the warning.

The topic also came up at the Habs players' media briefings this morning, and the players received the warning from their coaches.

We all know Romanov's very physical style of play, so the CH players know they have to keep their heads up:

"I'm sure he'll try to hand out some big checks tonight. We'll be throwing caution to those who haven't faced him yet."

"I've seen him practice in practice too. I don't think he'll have any friends on the ice tonight." - Jake Evans
