Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexander Romanov will become an independent player with compensation at the end of the season.
The reporter for The Athletic, Marc-Antoine Godin, mentioned that Kent Hughes would possibly be interested in making a long-term deal with his young defenseman, like Bergevin did with Nick Suzuki earlier this season.
According to Godin, it will be a salary around $4M per season.
However, Godin says it would be better if the Russian signed a short or medium term contract first. For example, a three-year contract worth between $2 and $3 million per season.
