The Philadelphia Flyers made a big decision in the last few hours, releasing their former first-round pick Jay O'Brien. O'Brien, a 23-year-old center, was drafted 19th overall in 2018. He amassed 70 points in 79 games in the NCAA! Impressive!
He will not be signing a contract with the Flyers.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers and O'Brien have decided not to come to terms on a new deal.
The Flyers will receive a second-round pick in compensation at the next NHL draft.
Some observers believe that he could be of interest to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, because they know him well.
In short, he is now available for free. A story to follow.
