As we reported yesterday afternoon, the Nashville Preds took the hockey world by surprise when they decided to place dynamic young forward Eeli Tolvanen on waivers.

With Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens looking for opportunities to acquire talented young forwards at a low price, many fans and experts will be watching the 2:00 p.m. announcement very closely.

"Eeli Tolvanen, a former 1st round pick in 2017 now 23 years old, was tendered by the Preds yesterday. Virtually no chance of the forward making it to the CH but if he does, they should definitely claim him. Solid project!

I don't follow the Preds very, very closely but many people have mentioned that he was never appreciated for what he was worth in Nashville and that he was rarely put in an optimal context to perform. Can't wait to see him in a different environment!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

The Habs are among a dozen clubs with first dibs on claiming players from waivers.

If Tolvanen goes to the CH, do you think Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton should claim him?

Tolvanen, 23, has four points in 13 games this season with Nashville. In his NHL career, he's scored 51 in 135 games. In the 2017 draft, he was expected to come out top-10 because of his immense potential.

He has already been compared to Mikko Rantanen, and his shot is devastating, but to exploit it, he needs to play in an offensive system.

A case to watch closely today, and it could change the Habs forward picture.
