GM Kent Hughes stated at a press conference that he would not be making a contract offer to 2021 first round pick Logan Mailloux this summer.
Hughes said he wants to take the time to evaluate the youngster again, as an individual. It's news that has caused a lot of reaction.
The more time that passes on this issue, the more likely it is that we'll hear about another, often overlooked, option that could be available to Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton: trading Mailloux's rights for a second round pick.
Indeed, if his rights expire (as they just did with former second round pick Jacob Olofsson), if the Habs decide never to sign Mailloux, Hughes would receive a second round pick as compensation.
Is that an option in your opinion? It would be like trading Logan Mailloux (in disguise) for a second round pick.
Logan Mailloux for a second round draft pick
According to many observers, this is probably the most plausible scenario, right now. Speaking of possible scenarios in this matter, there are three in the end:
- Signing Mailloux
- Release Mailloux and receive a 2nd round pick
- Trade Mailloux's rights to another club (for a first round pick?)
