Now that the NHL draft is fast approaching and the Habs have the first overall pick in the draft, many fans of the team have their eyes set on Shane Wright, the top prospect in the 2022 draft.
But don't forget about American Logan Cooley, who is expected to be one of the first three players selected in the first round and as Olivier Paiement of Danslescoulisses.com reports, Cooley was interviewed this week on 91.9 Sports.
Host Martin Lemay had the chance to speak with the American prospect for a dozen minutes and when he asked Cooley what the opportunity to play for the Habs would mean to him, his answer was quite clear.
"They're a historic franchise that has won a lot in the past. In terms of development, they're in a really good place right now. I also think St. Louis has done a superb job of changing things up with their style of play. I also know they have some young stars like Suzuki and Caufield. Playing for the Montreal Canadiens would be surreal."
The message is clear: Cooley would really like to be drafted by Montreal.
It is obvious that, a few weeks before the draft, the young prospect has made such comments about the organization of the Habs, but still, we can already say that he has a certain maturity and that his words are sincere.
Lemay then asked him who his role models were as current NHL players.
"I really enjoy watching Patrick Kane, Sebastian Aho and Clayton Keller. We all have similar greatness. Kane and Keller have tremendous skill and Aho is a center who plays both ways of the ice. I like to combine what they do in their game to incorporate into mine." It's safe to say that these players have all had success in the NHL.
Cooley had a great season with the U.S. Under-18 team, where he had 75 points, including 27 goals in 51 games.
Could Logan Cooley leapfrog Shane Wright and become the first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft?
Since the Canadiens won the lottery, many fans are wondering who will be the first pick in the draft between Shane Wright, Juraj Slafkovsky and Logan Cooley, but one thing is for sure, the player selected by Kent Hughes will receive a standing ovation at the Bell Centre on July 7.
