We have our answer.
Ty Smith was overlooked in the NHL waivers.
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have decided not to give young Smith a chance, the 17th overall pick of the 2018 draft. (just like all the other teams in the league)
It's truly surprising honestly, and one almost wonders if there's more to the story than meets the eye.
After all, we're talking about a defenseman who has racked up 50 points in 123 career NHL games, which is no small feat.
He's agile, he has high offensive potential, and he's still very young.
In short, he will remain with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization and will have the chance to make the teams that didn't want to give him a shot, even for free, regret their decision.
Would you have liked the Canadiens to claim Ty Smith?
For a team in rebuild mode, having the opportunity to acquire such a player without giving anything in return might have been interesting. He had the same value as an Alex Newhook last summer.
Would you take Ty Smith or Gustav Lindstrom first?
The former definitely has more potential.
In any case, we are surprised by the decision, but we trust them, and there must certainly be a reason. After all, all the other teams made the same choice as Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
Details to follow.
