In the last few days, we have learned a little more about Carey Price's health. Not only has he announced that surgery is not something he is considering at this time, but also that the reason for his absence at the beginning of last season was due to alcoholism.
On the subject of the goalie's injuries during his career, his former coach, Michel Therrien, came back this Tuesday during the program La Poche bleue le midi on TVA Sports about the famous 2015-2016 season. During that year, Price played only 12 games and accumulated a 10-2-0 record before getting injured and never returning to the game.
The doctors were telling us 4 to 6 weeks. Now it was five weeks and I was still seeing him on the physio table. I said to Steph [Stephane Waite]: "It seems to me that it does not look good!" - Michel Therrien
In the end, the 4 to 6 weeks will have been the whole season and the excellent start of the club will have ended with an exclusion from the playoffs.
"We only said what we knew. It was tough. It was tough for the players, too. They were starting to get nervous and, in a market like Montreal, rumors are flying left and right." - Michel Therrien
Interesting new revelations and puts things in perspective on what some were saying at the time.
According to Therrien, Price was capable of taking a B team to be an A team. He says that if it wasn't for the injury he suffered after a contact with Chris Kreider during the previous series, the CH would have definitely beaten the New York Rangers in the Eastern finals. Price came back on this event during his last press conference.
Therrien also said that he agreed that Price should have his jersey in the Bell Centre, even if he never won the Stanley Cup. However, he has one big condition first:
"Me there, I do not understand how it is that the jersey of Jacques Lemaire is not hung! Toe Blake, it's the same thing. Please Geoff, will you take care of the others first?" - Michel Therrien
