As the free agent market opens, rumors are flying everywhere and they will continue to do so until the players involved sign some new deals. So, Phillip Danault's name will continue to be very popular in the next few hours because he is/was a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
On top of that, he is a homegrown product and a high quality player, which makes him at the top of the popular people in Quebec right now. The Danault clan and Marc Bergevin are not on the same page, which is already pushing Danault away from Montreal.
So, according to Elliotte Friedman, Danault could end up in California, with the Los Angeles Kings. At least that's the insider's prediction, just as he predicts David Savard will join the Habs. Savard seems to be the only available defenseman who wants to join the Montreal Canadiens, and he doesn't seem to be afraid of taxes and the media pressure of Quebec.
As for Danault, even if the sale of his house is probably part of the negotiations, everything leads us to believe that the number 24 will not be back at his position next season, hence the potential additions of Cedric Paquette and David Savard, as a matter of having some Quebecers in the lineup.
In short, Wednesday will be very electrifying and eventful, based on all the rumors that are circulating right now.
