Kent Hughes was obviously in this derby, but Klingberg finally accepted the offer from the Anaheim Ducks. (1 year / $7 million)
Surprising new development
Despite his summer decision, all indications are that Klingberg is interested in possibly coming to play in Montreal.
While in town yesterday for the Canadiens-Ducks duel, John Klingberg gave an interesting interview to La Presse reporter Guillaume LeFrançois. The Swedish defenseman made some interesting statements.
He confirmed that the Habs tried to sign him last summer, and most importantly, Klingberg added that he would definitely be interested in signing with Montreal next summer, if he becomes an independent player (which should happen unless there is a major turnaround).
Wow! He adds that Montreal is one of his favorite cities, because of its European feel. Let's also mention that Klingberg would be an ideal defenseman for Martin St-Louis' system of play.
In short, it's rare to see a player come forward like this, especially against an opposing team, but we love it!
Do you think Kent Hughes should try to acquire Klingberg this summer, via the free agent market, if the opportunity arises?
Klingberg, 30, has 10 points in 24 games this season. With the Stars, he had seasons of 67 and 58 points. He has the ideal profile to drive a formidable power play.
